Boman: Rebuilding His Livelihood After Returning from Iran

After returning from Iran to Afghanistan, Boman worked to rebuild his economic life. He initially started a small furniture and mattress business, but after understanding market demand, he shifted his focus toward clothing production. His ability to adapt and respond to market opportunities helped him expand his business and create employment opportunities for others.

The return journey

After years of living in Iran, Boman returned to Afghanistan and faced one of the most important challenges many returnees experience: how to rebuild a stable livelihood after return.

Instead of relying only on limited employment opportunities, he decided to create his own source of income. In 2021, he started a small business producing sofas and cushions.

Like many new entrepreneurs, Boman faced several challenges, including understanding the local market, accessing resources, and attracting customers.

However, one of the key strengths of his journey was his ability to adapt. After observing market trends, he realized that clothing production offered stronger opportunities for growth. He changed his business direction and expanded into producing women’s clothing and later men’s clothing.

With additional livelihood support and investment, he was able to purchase equipment, expand production capacity, and grow his business. Over time, his enterprise created employment opportunities for more people in the community.

Boman’s story shows that restarting after return does not always mean rebuilding the same life as before. Sometimes success comes from adapting to new conditions, learning from experience, and finding opportunities in the destination community.

Why return?

After spending years in Iran, Boman decided to return to Afghanistan and build a new economic pathway.

Instead of only looking for employment, he used entrepreneurship as a way to create a sustainable source of income for himself and his family.
